There are two kinds of people in this world: those who can wrap gifts, and those who cannot. And they marry each other.

As the latter of the two, I am assigned one simple task each year: gift embellishment. From acrylic hand-lettered ornaments to monogrammed leather tags, adding a little keepsake with each gift is a tradition that J and I started a few years ago, and look forward to designing each holiday season.

For 2022, we opted for brass keychains with simple stamped names.

instructions
  1. Order your supplies from my Amazon list (there are a few options with multiple choices, so double check your cart!) or pick them up at your local Hobby Lobby

  2. Prep a list of names and what exactly you will stamp on the blanks. We opted for first initial, last name — i.e., “A. Raines” — but you can do anything you’d like!

  3. My setup: I place a cutting board on my kitchen table, layer the stamping block on top, and then use the tap to secure the blank to the block and give me a straight edge to follow. This protects my table while providing a firm surface for even stamp imprints.

  4. Practice your technique on one of your blanks, getting a feel for holding the stamp straight up and down and aligning, so the letter isn’t tilted. This takes some practice, but you’ll pick it up quickly!

  5. Turn up a great playlist and get to stamping. It takes about 5-10 hammers per letter, so be prepared for some noise! Hence the playlist. 😉

  6. Once you’ve stamped your words/sayings on the blank, use the enamel pen to fill in the letters. Once dried, the enamel will wipe off the blank with a paper towel, but the color will remain in the letter grooves.

  7. Thread your key rings or ribbons and add to your gifts.
